180 and 360 Degree Feedback
180 degree feedback occurs between two people. Often a manager will ask that each direct report provide feedback regarding the manager’s performance. This is sometimes called “upward feedback.”
360 degree feedback is often referred to as multi-rater feedback since developmental feedback is obtained from all around the employee. The feedback could come from direct reports, peers/co-workers, managers, customers, vendors or others who interact with the employee.
Both feedback tools provide each employee the opportunity to receive performance feedback which allows the individual to understand their effectiveness as an employee, coworker, staff member or manager as viewed by others. This insight creates opportunities for growth and development.
